A thick layer of depressing cloud continued to cover the city in the late evening, blocking the stars from view. There was a disturbing brown hue filling the sky, which was unusually bright for the time of night. Dead trees were silhouetted by the glow. Every branch was like a black, featureless vein trailing off without end.
