My smoke detector has been beeping incessently for the past few days. So I finally vanquished my fear of "setting it off" by removing it from wall, and I took out the battery. But it STILL BEEPS!

My smoke detector has been beeping incessently for the past few days. So I finally vanquished my fear of "setting it off" by removing it from wall, and I took out the battery. But it STILL BEEPS!

It's doing that because the battery is dead. Put in a new battery.
